Pancake Rocks, Punakaiki

Attempting a bit of a catch up at the moment, I've got a bunch of images from the last few months that I need to work on and get up on here, including 2 trips to the West Coast, the first from August around Greymouth and Punakaiki and the second from a few weeks ago where I went up to Karamea/Kahurangi national park area.

This image is from the first trip, I made the 40 min drive from Greymouth to Pancake Rocks for sunrise. Sunrise itself was a no go, but I hung around for about an hour and was presented with a 1 minute long gap in the clouds where I captured this!

No explosive-wave-awesomeness from this morning as the tide wasn't at it's highest, but I got that opportunity a few days later

For those who are curious, these amazing limestone rocks were formed on the seabed from alternating layers of hard and soft sediments (marine creatures and plants). The seabed was then raised through earthquake activity, while rain and wind eroded the softer sandstone to leave just the hard limestone layers you can see here.
